mp3 load and play

Seems I can't load mp3s. Sad

If I convert a piece of music to ogg then it loads and plays fine, but loading and playing mp3 gives me: SDLengine error - playMusic: music not loaded.

I guess I'm missing some SDL library but don't know what. Googling takes me in circles. Anyone have the same problem, and perhaps fixed it ?

Could be a bug. I have to check. I had the same issues once. I think mp3 music gave an error, whereas mp3 sound was fine ... Huh

this would not be the first time i've seen sdl have trouble with mp3's. i wrote a program (some proprietary basic using sdl, not "sdlbasic") that did fine with both ogg and mp3, but didn't like mp3's with less commonly used bitrates. try it with a variety of mp3's (note the bitrates) and ask someone on the sdl forum about it.

an "all purpose" language calls for- as much as can possibly be reasonable- an "all purpose" forum. the worst thing happening to modern basic? too many pointless rules and painting everything into corners. most modern basic forums are like that too.

I've checked libraries are intact and find that I can play mp3s with the sdl mixer command "plaympeg", so I'm beginning to think it is a bug, but where to look ?
Playing mp3s is not available in the windows version anyway according to the source, and it's not a show stopper, (I can always convert to ogg).
